Handicap Policy 2025-2026
Quantum of revision based on Tournament scores
The handicap index will be revised as follows –
A player's handicap index will be revised by 80% of the difference between his original WHS HI and the Tournament score HI.
- For Handicap indexes 5.0 and below, the quantum of revision will not exceed 1.0.
- For Handicap indexes 5.1 to 10.0, the quantum of revision will not exceed 2.0.
- For Handicap indexes 10.1 to 15.0, the quantum of revision will not exceed 3.0.
- For Handicap indexes 15.1 to 20.0, the quantum of revision will not exceed 4.0.
- For Handicap Indexes 20.0 and above and in exceptional cases across all handicap indexes, the quantum of revision will be at the Handicap Committee’s discretion.
Duration of handicap index revision
1 month for each revision. An additional revision will commence after the end of the first revision. Subsequent revisions will be at the discretion of the Handicap Committee.
Handicap Revisions and GHIN records
The Handicap revision made at CGC will override the GHIN handicap until the duration of the revision. A golfer is expected to carry and play to the revised CGC Handicap Index at all golf courses. Failure to adhere to the above would result in a penalty score posted by the Handicap Committee as per section 8.4b.
Player records
A player's records (Tournament and Non-Tournament) shall be maintained for the entire duration of the current active golfing season ie. from May to February of the year in question.
USGA Exceptional tournament score (Section 10.3 ) - As per the WHS, exceptional T scores will receive a -1 cut for all 20 recent scores where score differentials are between 7.0 and 9.0 below their HI. And a -2 cut for score differentials 10 or more below their HI.
The Committee will monitor scoring records and should there be a trend of abnormal scores posted during Tournament play as opposed to regular rounds, the committee would exercise the following options:
- Call for an explanation from the player by email.
- Conduct an enquiry with the player in person.
- Post a penalty score.
- Suspend the player from Tournament plays for a period of 3 months at the Committee's discretion.
Tournament formats subjected to revision
All Individual Tournaments (Stroke play, Stableford, Against bogey and Matchplay) will be subject to revision. Partnership formats such as Better ball, Aggregate Stableford and Matchplay will be subject to revision.
Scramble and other forms of alternate play shall be exempted.
Section 3.5 (Men and Women competing from different tees)
Section 3.5 will not be implemented for Tournaments. Those maintaining handicaps from Red tees, desiring to play from White tees and vice versa will not be given any additional strokes.
However, for non-tournament play, a golfer may implement the difference in course rating from different tees amongst his or her group.
Frequency of revision
Active season (July to March) - After each tournament.
Inactive season (April to June) - Weekly revisions as per GHIN software.
Summer League scores will be reviewed as per the discretion of the Committee
